Astrology is not matching one’s birthday with a column in your local paper to see what your week will look like (a form typically referred to as ‘sun sign astrology’). It is a cross-cultural and collaborative effort that began with the wonder of star gazing in early civilizations. Astrology is a theory, and a very complicated and expansive one at that!
My parents remember that I was curious, struck with wonder. I grew up with a love of math, patterns, mysteries and people. Perhaps, it’s of small wonder that astrology appealed to me.

When I was in high school I was convinced that I had a truly novel epiphany. I was so convinced that I went off to a cafe to write it down immediately. It had to do with the notion of individual differences in colour preference. My favourite colour is red... always has been. My sister's has always been a sort of dark blue-purple like colour. But, could it be that they are the same thing? Confused?
Recently, I found myself thinking a lot about the philosophical underpinnings and problems with astrology. I'm always drawn back to what seems to be pillars of the astrological theory:
This is still the most dramatic image that I can think of when it comes to Mars in discordance with Saturn(despite the fact that Mars was not quite opposed Saturn during this event, it certainly may be the case that one or both of these planets did interact with this individual's natal chart). While I originally, conceived of this photo as Mars versus Uranus, it became clear upon further reflection that the tanks here do not represent the collective, rather the state... in this case, a controlling and constraint driven entity like Saturn.

While many astrologers claim to be psychological astrologers most are linked to either Jungian or Humanistic Psychology. There are some that propose an evolutionary point of view on the matter. But, I was very happy to find a site on Gestalt Astrology on the web. It is very well done and I highly recommend it! Here it is by Kenan Doyle Brenam. Check it out.
Recently, I have found myself reading another blog on web.net devoted to sex by Michelle Melles and Pedro Orrego. Of course, in astrology the eighth house is often referred to as the house of sex. Or in other words, that sphere of life that relates directly or metaphorically to sexuality. I think that it is wonderful to have a blog at our disposal that so passionately explores this area of life.
I went to see the film Transformers recently and wrote a small blog on another site about it here. Afterwards, I spent some time thinking about the relationship between humanity and technology and found myself thinking down an old back alley of the mind.
I woke up this morning really early. It's been happening for two weeks. Ever since I had a few cavities filled. I have periodic bouts of real discomfort. This morning it was enough to wake me again. I went to see the dentist a week ago and he had a very simple explanation for the discomfort, sanded down the fillings a bit and then told me that I would experience discomfort for a few more days. It's been a week.
Sorry for the absence of blogs lately folks! I went to Chicago... came back very inspired and have been busy applying my inspiration at work ever since. I hope to translate my insights into astrology very soon. In the meantime I'm trying to organize this blog in a manner that makes sense to me, and hopefully to you too. Thanks for your patience!
Cheers
Nik
I’ve been in transit for a couple of days now traveling around North America: from Toronto, through Detroit and on to Chicago. Coincidentally, the same theme seems to present itself both in my observations
and conversations with friends along the way. It seems that each city has its own ‘feel’ or ‘mood’. Many have commented on the difference between east and west coast, with the west coast typically seen as easier going and the east coast as a faster and tougher pace.
Almost ten years ago I had a revelation. It was more like a moment. It still rests in my heart.
It was a different life and I was in a different place, but the quality of the moment feels timeless.
